Big game fishing in the UK
Its amazing to think that the south coast of the UK has become a premier bluefin tuna fishing location. The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna is impressive for many reasons especially it’s size and immense power. These Giant Atlantic Bluefin can grow upwards of 1000lbs and there are certainly fish of this size visiting our waters every year.
Some days off Falmouth, you can see Tuna “busting” as far as the eye can see! The baitfish, birdlife and sheer volume of Bluefin Tuna can only be described as amazing, you really do feel as if you are watching a David Attenborough’s Blue Planet documentary.
Over the last decade the numbers of these fish visiting our waters has increased massively resulting in this world class fishery with anglers from all over the world flying in to experience what it has to offer.

Protected by law
The fishery is highly regulated by CEFAS,DEFRA and the MMO on behalf of the UK government. Any targeting of the species without a licence is illegal and the recreational fishery is strictly “catch and release”. There are a few licenced commercial tuna boats operating in the UK which do provide a small amount of UK Bluefin for the market.
We have owned a big game boat in the UK for nearly 2 decades and considered shipping it overseas to chase these fish…then you could say the fish came to us! Its such a fantastic conservation success story
